The Community Programme runs interactive, fun workshops for youth workers, educators, community groups and young people on global education-related issues.

Music For ChangeIn this workshop participants explore how music has and is being used around the world as a catalyst for change, and how music can be used in education settings to stimulate exploration of contemporary issues. Objective:To provide educators with an understanding of how music can be used to mobilise groups and how it can be intergrated into current work. |

Take Action - Empowering People To Make A DifferenceLooking at young people as change makers. How to encourage and empower young people to make the world a just place. Participants will receive practical ideas to use within their existing youth programme. Objective:To educate youth workers on the importance of young people's involvement in social change and to give some practical steps to encourage youth involvement in a just world. |

Eating The Media LunchInvestigating the role of the media (especially news) in forming how people see the world. Discussing the influences and effect of different factors on the news we receive, and therefore the global world that people believe they live in. Participants will gain some media literacy skills through attending this workshop. Objective:To provide participants with an understanding of the biase and influences on our news sources, and to provide tools for engaging learners in various community settings. |

Parihaka - Non-violent Resistance MovementsThis workshop explores the notion of non-violence as a means of bringing about lasting change. Participants are encouraged to develop an understanding of what makes up non-violence movements and how these can be applied to their work. Objective:To provide participants with an understanding of how non-violence movements are an effective mechanism for bringing about peaceful change. By exploring events at Parihaka in Taranaki during that land confiscations of the late 19th century, through to more modern examples, participants will develop a better understanding of how non-violence can be used in their work. |

Creating Culture - Global Advertising And Its Impact On Young PeopleLooking at the significant role that global advertising plays in a person's life. Discussing the magnitude and impact that global advertising has. Focus is especially on understanding global advertising as partly creating the culture that young people are part of. Objective:To provide participants with an understanding of the role that global advertising plays in shaping the perceptions of the world we live in, the role it plays in shaping identity, and tools for exploring the issues with young people. |
