Global Education is a process which enables people to understand the links between their own lives and those of people throughout the world. It aims to develop skills, attitudes and values to bring about a more just and sustainable world.
Global Education aims to develop an understanding of the factors and underlying causes that surround poverty, injustice, conflict, health and environmental degradation both in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. This, in the medium to long term, raises awareness, enabling people to act more compassionately in their daily lives in their community.
GEC recognises the importance of incorporating global perspectives in working with young people. This ensures that young people are considered and treated as active members of an increasingly global community, affected by global issues and as significant contributors to the future of their communities and the planet.
It is a reality that young people who have access to information are better equipped to:
deal with the impact that global events are increasingly having on their opportunities
make well-informed choices about their futures
construct meaningful and productive paths forward for themselves and their communities
