Services offered by GEC

What is Global Education?

Global Education is a process which enables people to understand the links between their own lives and those of people throughout the world. It aims to develop skills, attitudes and values to bring about a more just and sustainable world.

Global Education aims to develop an understanding of the factors and underlying causes that surround poverty, injustice, conflict, health and environmental degradation both in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally.  This, in the medium to long term, raises awareness, enabling people to act more compassionately in their daily lives in their community.

Schools Programme

GEC's Schools programme provides sevices for the formal Education sector. These include: holding a lending library, publishing a quarterly magazine on Global Issues, writing teaching resources and providing workshop training. We also aim to build links and create opportunities for Global Education. Our clients are Teachers, Trainees, Teacher Trainers, Students and others working in Global Education.

Community/Youth Programme

The Community Youth Programme provides services for the community sector, with a particular focus on those working with young people, and young people themselves. Services offered include training for youth workers, youth educators, organisations and young people; youth advocacy work;  and a free quarterly resource Global Bits,

The programme also works directly  with young people's networks, and youth organisations to increase awareness of the impact of global issues on young people locally and globally; develops projects  that promote positive aspects of community building and youth empowerment, which place young people at the centre of community processes, and; working collaboratively with other development NGOs, both domestic and international, to develop innovative approaches to raising awareness about global issues.
